The reference image is from Avvesione’s Anime Blog – WordPress.com who did a review on the anime this scene is from. According to this blog it’s from Shin Sekai Yori (Episode 24).
I thought I’d trace around to try and memorise how things worked as the image I want to polish up doesn’t quite have the right foreshortening, and the pose initially made me think of anime first. I’ve tried to look for a human reference to this kind of pose before, it’s surprisingly difficult sometimes but I find anime versions show exaggerate the pose better and it gives off better emotion and force in the gesture when animated and are easier to find as there are more examples of it. I guess it’s a bit more iconic.
Foreshortening for exaggerated poses is something I’m working on but as I have a deadline I’m just trying to make things easier.
